Compound Interest Explained

Compound interest is the process where the interest you earn on your money is added back to your balance, so that you then earn interest on that interest.

This means that the interest paid is not withdrawn but is increased with the deposit amount and reinvested again for another term.

The effect on your savings if you compound interest

Unlike simple interest, which is the interest calculated on your original deposit amount, compound interest is calculated on your total current balance (initial deposit + all previously earned interest).

A Masterpiece Reborn: About Puccini’s Turandot

Teatru Astra Turandot visual

On 25 April 1926, the world witnessed the première of Turandot, the final and most ambitious work of Giacomo Puccini — widely regarded as the last great opera of the Italian grand tradition. Although unfinished at the time of Puccini’s death and later completed by Franco Alfano, the opera’s emotional depth, musical innovation and dramatic scale have secured its place among the most celebrated works of the 20th century.

Set in a magnificent, mythical vision of ancient China, Turandot draws its audience into a world of ritual, mystery and hidden longing. Renowned for its dramatic intensity and rich orchestration, the opera features the iconic aria “Nessun dorma”, one of the most universally recognised tenor arias in history.

This centenary production at Teatru Astra will be conducted by Joseph Debrincat, leading the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, with the Classique Opera Chorus and a distinguished cast including Maida Huddeling (Turandot), Gianluca Breda (Timur) and Matteo Mezzaro (Pong). Designed by Matteo Capobianco and directed by Salvo Dolce, the performance offers a refined and contemporary tribute to a century of Turandot’s legacy.

Supported by the Cultural Heritage Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, Visit Malta, NDSF and the Social Causes Fund, this production is expected to be one of Malta’s most prestigious cultural events in 2026.
